Electrical Rewire & Upgrade Project at Equine Clinic

Matt Browning Ltd. has just completed an electrical rewire and upgrade project in the stable buildings attached to the veterinary clinic and theatre areas at the Scott Dunn Equine Clinic in Berkshire.

As part of a complete refurbishment of the stable buildings, we carried out the following works:

  • Removal and replacement of all electrical wiring and cable containment systems
  • New distribution circuits to local buildings, and installation of new distribution boards
  • Provision of 100mA, 30mA, and 10mA RCD protection where required to suit particular site requirements
  • New IP65 low energy lighting system to all stables and associated rooms
  • Emergency lighting for escape routes and key equine care areas
  • Fire Detection and Alarm System upgrade

We were pleased to be selected by the main contractor for this project, having previously worked directly with the management team at the clinic to understand their needs and produce a suitable design and specification for the new electrical installation.

During the design process, we had to address a few specific technical issues related to this type of site: safety of the horses, veterinary staff, and visitors; presence of flammable stable bedding and dust; potential for rodent damage to cables; and use of mains powered portable medical equipment, together with existing site constraints.

We worked with the client and the main contractor – carrying out the work in planned stages - to ensure the clinic could remain operational throughout the duration of works. Full Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) were provided, and the work was completed on budget.

With the project finished, the dedicated veterinary team are able to offer high quality stable facilities, whilst benefitting from lower energy costs, increased reliability, and electrical safety compliant with BS7671 2015 Wiring Regulations.
